Meet the interns: Amy Fabbo
Amy's been on board with Romero Athletics for a few months now, and we're so happy to call her a member of the crew. She fits in so well, gets on great with our members and just happens to be an excellent coach. We sat down to get to know her a little better.
Tell us about your interests
I'm passionate about anything and everything health and fitness related so I’m usually at the gym, playing sport and going on hikes on the weekends. I love all of the food, dogs, music festivals/gigs and play a few instruments when I have downtime.
Why did you apply to intern at Romero Athletics?
I applied to intern at Romero Athletics for the opportunity to learn in an uplifting environment of like-minded coaches and range of athletes. After completing my personal training qualifications I realised that the more I know, the more I don’t know so I wanted to spend time gaining quality hands on experience before making my mark on the industry. Word of mouth in Canberra is powerful. I had heard raving positive reviews about Alan’s impact on his client’s movement, rehab, mindset, body composition and performance etc. After hearing about Romero Athletics’ core values and seeing the space designed around a fun, holistic approach to performance training I knew I wanted to be involved.
What do you hope to gain from your internship?
To push myself out of my comfort zone and grow as a well rounded coach and athlete. I hope to gain experience and the tools to help a range of clients reach their goals in safe and sustainable way.
What’s your history with sports and training?
I was that kid who grew up doing something everyday after school. Swimming, karate, gymnastics, boxing, soccer - I love variety which led me to training at a CrossFit affiliate gym. I’ve competed in CrossFit competitions, Novice Olympic Lifting and Power Lifting meets and play social soccer.
What are your favourite exercises?
Currently I’m spending my time tidying up my movement patterns. I love lifting heavy - my favourite lift is the bench press and anything gymnasty or outdoors.
Favourite athlete?
Kara Webb & Steven Gerrard.
Hit us with your goals – in training and in life.
Medium term goals I’m currently working towards: strict ring muscle up and a double body weight squat.
In life I want to inspire people around me and help undo the chaos that is caused by sedentary lifestyles.
What have you learned so far from interning at Romero Athletics?
I’ve learned a lot about quality programming and its delivery. In particular, how valuable it is to work on how movements feel rather than just how it might look.
I’ve met a bunch of awesome, strong people with a similar mindset and learned a lot more than anticipated already.
